4 Top Tips to Prioritize Sustainability in Interior Design

Over the last 12 months, I have noticed that many more of my clients have asked me to include elements of sustainability in their designs. With the world focusing on more sustainable approaches across many sectors, I was not surprised. Many of us want to cut our carbon footprint down and ensure that where we purchase our everyday goods, they come from a sustainable place, and resources are being replenished in an environmentally friendly way.

Tip 1: Prioritize Quality Over Price When Choosing Pieces

The popular saying goes, "You get what you pay for," which is so true when it comes to furniture and interior finishes! High-quality pieces are priced higher for many reasons, many of which stem from their sustainable and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. It's important for homeowners to consider where materials are coming from and ensure that they choose timeless pieces so that they don't end up in landfill sites.

Tip 2: Refresh Your Space by Reupholstering Old Pieces

Have you ever considered reupholstering an existing piece of furniture? Restoring well-loved pieces is a great way to be more sustainable, extend the life of a piece, and give it a new lease of life! High-quality pieces made and refreshed with luxury textiles allow you to get more for your initial investment.

Tip 3: Vet the Companies You Buy From

When choosing new pieces for your home, it's crucial to research the company's ethos and manufacturing processes. This will give you a better understanding of whether they are sourcing materials from sustainable areas and whether the items are being manufactured responsibly. Look out for labels like Fair Trade and Greenguard. I personally vet the companies I source products from for my clients and discuss manufacturing processes with representatives.

Our Continued Dedication to Thoughtful Practices

If you're looking for high-end and luxurious furniture pieces for your home while also prioritizing sustainability, you may find it a near-impossible task! There's so much to consider when sustainability is involved, but I explore this challenge every day for my clients and to expand my knowledge within the industry, and I'd be delighted to help walk you through this process in more detail, too.

Above all, rest assured that you can have a beautifully designed home and care about sustainability. It's all about the choices you make and the vendors you choose to purchase from. Always do your research and ask questions! I love to help homeowners make more sustainable choices with their homes. I focus on repurposing existing items where possible, reducing waste, and making high-quality design selections with sustainability in mind.

If you're ready to enhance your home and care about sustainability in the process, reach out! We can't wait to hear about your project!

Cheers,

Laura
